Gibbon Hackathon 2019 . Mar 6, 2019
The Gibbon Hackathon 2019 is a chance for passionate programmers to contribute to the Gibbon open source school platform. We hope to combine the knowledge of experienced Gibbon programmers with the enthusiasm of new comers to the community, to work on new features for Gibbon v18. Details in the poster below (click for a larger version).
This year the hackathon will be hosted at Ross’ house, where we’ll plan for a day of coding, fresh baked bread & BBQ. We’ll meet 9:30am at Tai Wo MTR, northbound platform exit. Let us know if you plan to attend so we can arrange to meet up.

Dear Gibbon Community Members,
Today we have the great pleasure to announce that Sandra Kuipers is stepping up her commitment to the Gibbon project, and taking on the role of Maintainer.
For those of you who have been active in the project over the past years, this ought not come as a surprise: Sandra has made a massive contribution to the direction of the project, to the codebase, and to our community. In Sandra we are lucky to have found someone who believes in the power of open source, who is technically adept and loves to learn, and who is willing to drive things forward in a steady, organised and patient manner.

You can download a compressed, printable STL file here (it’s CC BY-SA-NC licensed, so feel free to remix, but do share alike).
We are hoping that the next version will have a small loop so that these can be used as keychains and bag tags. In the meantime, if you use this file, please share the image with us via Twitter.

RaspberryPi Alarm . May 18, 2017
One of the most joyful and empowering aspects of open source development is the mindset and ability to take someone else’s system, and then adjust it to fit some edge case you encounter. This approach to solving problems has been exemplified by Jack Dickson, who used a Raspberry Pi, some Python code and a Gibbon forum post to stitch together an alarm actuator. The code, running on the Pi, repeatedly polls the Gibbon database, and when it detects an alarm has been issued, it uses speakers and lights to make the alarm obvious to users not logged into the system.
